About The Event
Agriculture has an important role in
human life because it serves as a provider of food, feed for livestock, and
bioenergy. The role of agriculture is very strategic in supporting the national
economy, especially in achieving food security, increasing competitiveness,
absorbing labour and reducing poverty. In addition, it encourages the growth of
downstream agro-industry and spurs the export of agricultural commodities to
increase foreign exchange. On the other hand, providing the food needs of the
community is a major task that is not light, which is estimated that
Indonesia's population in 2050 will reach 330.9 million people, the sixth
largest in the world after India, China, Nigeria, the United States and
Pakistan (United Nations Population, 2019).
In order to provide food for the
community as a form of domestic food security, which has been outlined in Law
Number 17 of 2007 concerning the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN)
for 2005-2025 and Presidential Regulation Number 18 of 2020 concerning the
National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) for 2020-2024, the agricultural
sector is expected to contribute to quality economic growth in Indonesia. Nationally,
it is estimated that economic growth in the next five years is expected to
increase 5.7 to 6.0% per year, driven by increased productivity, sustainable
investment, improved labour markets and improved quality of Human Resources
(HR). In 2024, the improvement in economic quality is marked by improvements in
Indonesia's macroeconomic indicators, including stabilisation of inflation, a
reduction in the poverty rate, a reduction in the unemployment rate, a
reduction in the Gini ratio and an increase in the Human Development Index
(HDI).
BPS data in 2022 shows that the rice
harvest area in 2021 reached around 10.41 million hectares, a decrease of
245.47 thousand hectares or 2.30 per cent compared to the rice harvest area in
2020 which was 10.66 million hectares. Rice production in 2021 is 54.42 million
tonnes of MDG, a decrease of 233.91 thousand tonnes or 0.43 per cent compared
to rice production in 2020 which was 54.65 million tonnes of MDG. Rice
production in 2021 for food consumption of the population reached 31.3 million
tonnes, a decrease of 140.73 thousand tonnes or 0.45 per cent compared to rice
production in 2020 which amounted to 31.50 million tonnes.
Referring to Law No. 17 of 2007
concerning the National Long-Term Development Plan 2005-2025, the development
of science and technology in Indonesia is directed to support food and energy
security. The support of these regulations is not only intended to create a
national food and energy supply strategy, but also to encourage the
strengthening of technological innovation systems related to food and energy in
the context of knowledge-based economic development.
Unmuh Jember has formulated a Master Plan for
Research and community service as stated in the 2020-2024 research and
community service roadmap, one of which is research in the field of food
security and renewable energy. Therefore, as a form of effort to increase
knowledge and disseminate research results related to strengthening food
independence and village empowerment, the Faculty of Agriculture Unmuh Jember
needs to organise the 3rd International Conference (SEMARTANI).
